Most important tip: Save regularly!
What sounds banal has already cost us one or the other nerve when playing Cosmoteer. If you only own one ship, it is best to save before each fight – otherwise the game can be over very quickly and you have to restart at an autosave point. Tip: Open the settings and look for the key assignment the option to save. Put it on any key (or use the given key combination) and press it too often rather than too few.
Don’t overload your ship
Just build the complete ship with armor and then see how the opponents bite their teeth on it? Unfortunately, this is not possible, otherwise the speed of the ship will suffer and the opponents will outmaneuver you. That’s why our first tip after painful personal experience is: Balance your ship well and rely on one good mix of firepower, maneuverability and armor. This way you can cope well against the first pirates and you can create a thick financial cushion from which you can then design your ship according to your wishes.
Expand your storage space early
If you have wrecked an enemy ship, use the mining function (the small pickaxe next to your ship in the lower left menu) to snatch the remaining resources from the wrecks. You then use these to build your ship. However, he is storage space on your ship very limited, especially at the beginning, which is why you should get your own storage ship.
To do this, you must first board an enemy ship. This works best if you destroy the cockpit or command center. You can then use the small menu at the bottom left to “Send Crew”. After successfully boarding you patch it up and fly with it to the next space station.
When you arrive at the space station, you rebuild it according to your ideas. Since it is only intended to serve as a storage ship, you hardly need any weapon systems – put on Storage space, armor and maneuverability. A lot of thrusters are a must, for example. Then you set the ship to “Follow” on your main ship and you already have huge storage space for your architectural dreams.
Allocate storage locations in Cosmoteer – this is how it works
In order to use the storage space sensibly, you assign the resources to the different squares in the camps. For example, it makes sense to keep the ammunition close to the weapon. At the same time, you can optimally equip different warehouses and keep an overview.
Start with cannons
So that you can cut through your opponents as smoothly as possible at the beginning, rely on the standard cannons and their expansion levels. They cause high damage and are comparatively easy to power – you only need ammo, energy and crew members. Once you’ve unlocked the big gun, you’ll need to take care of theirs take care of ammunition supply. This works best with an ammo factory.
You place the ammunition factory as close as possible to the cannons and the appropriate storage rooms so that your crew can transport the ammunition as quickly as possible. Since you for the Ammo production Sulfur required, you should regularly head for and mine asteroids with the raw material. A mining laser helps enormously with this. Watch out for your energy though – the laser consumes a lot of it.
How do the lasers work in Cosmoteer?
In Cosmoteer you can not only work with cannons or rockets. As befits a good scifi game, there are also Lasers are part of the party. The small rays are a little weak on their own, though. Luckily there are the prisms. These bundle laser beams and thus increase the damage significantly. However, they also lose some damage per focused beam – a clever construction is required here. Tip: Do not focus more than two beams per prism.
If you have designed everything optimally, you get it a huge laser beam, that melts ships in a matter of seconds. Since this requires a lot of resources and planning, you should first familiarize yourself with the basics of Cosmoteer and then venture into your own Death Star.
Customize your crew in Cosmoteer
In order for your ship to function optimally in Cosmoteer, you must ensure a good crew composition. Create different roles for different tasks in the crew tab. Then you can do the roles assign per quarter – therefore distribute the quarters as sensibly as possible to the appropriate roles on your ship.
That means you station yours, for example Weapons officers as close to the cannons as possibleso that the distances are as short as possible. You should also limit activities so that your gunners are not responsible for powering the engines.
Tips on the fights and the pause function
Important: Keep an eye on the distance, speed and systems of your ship during battles. Systems like the mining laser can be turned off in battlebecause it only consumes energy unnecessarily.
At the same time, you should try to keep the optimal distance for your weapons. For example, if you are traveling with a railgun, it is best to keep your opponent at a distance – with cannons, on the other hand, you want to get as close as possible to the enemy. Do you have to readjust Pause the fight with the spacebar and hold “Shift”.. Now a cross appears on the red beam that connects you and your opponent. This allows you to correct the distance and angle of attack of your ship.
