• Lucario counterattacks and boosts
• Machamp with counterattack and slamming/cross-cut
• Melmetal with Thunder Shock and Powerhulk

With the first Pokémon, it’s always important that you lure out Giovanni’s shields right away. In Pokémon GO, the Rocket Boss always uses his shields for your first two charging attacks. It is therefore best to use a fast charging attack. For example, Lucario with boosting slash is a good choice here. Normally, Lucario should be enough to defeat Snobilikat.

• Sumpex with Clay Shot and Aqua Howitzer

The fight against Rihornior is actually pretty easy going. At best, you need a Pokémon with Water-type or Grass-type attacks, since Rhyperior has a double weakness there. Nidoking is Poison and Ground type and has multiple weaknesses in Pokémon GO. You can use Water, Ice, Ground, and Psycho types effectively. The best Pokemon to use against Nidoking and to defeat Giovanni are:

• Kyogre with cascade and surfers
• Stalobor with clay shot and percussion drill
• Mewtwo with Psycho Blade and Ice Beam

Nidoking has a variety of approaches to defeating Giovanni. Kyogre, for example, is steadfast in combat and has a fairly fast Charged Attack with Surfer. However, you can also use ground attackers such as Stalobor or Groudon. Stalobor is fast, but doesn’t take much damage. Groudon is the other way around – it’s a bit slower but also more steadfast in combat.

• Mewtwo with Confusion and Psychoblast
• Hoopa with confusion and psychokinesis
• Psiana with confusion and psychokinesis

If Giovanni uses Machomei, you shouldn’t have too much trouble. After all, there are more than enough counters to choose from. How to defeat Latios of Giovanni: Like Latias, Latios is a Psychic and Dragon-type Pokémon. This makes it particularly vulnerable to a large number of attackers. Your choice is yours as long as you use Bug, Ghost, Ice, Dragon, Dark, or Fairy moves to defeat Giovanni.

• Rayquaza with dragon rod and tantrum
• Brutalanda with dragon tail and tantrum/Draco Meteor
• Gardevoir with charm and magic

Fighting Latios might be a bit harder as it can withstand a lot of damage. A good choice here is Rayquaza, which can also take a lot of damage and deals a lot of damage with its dragon attacks. But you are also well advised to use Beetle or Ice Pokémon and have a good chance of defeating Giovanni. Ideally, you’ve lured out both of Giovanni’s shields before Latios to make the fight easier.

First of all, you should bet the first Pokémon on Lucario. This already lures Giovanni out of the shields at Snobilikat and should defeat the first Pokémon. After that, it’s up to Kyogre. If Giovanni uses Nidoking or Rihornior, then you have to use Kyogre. If Giovanni uses his Machamp, you should use a Psychic-type Pokémon like Mewtwo or Psiana. Alternatively, flying monsters like Staraptor or Lavados also work. Finally you go into battle with Rayquaza against Latios.

Once you have the Super Rocket Radar in your inventory, you can look for Giovanni at PokéStops. Turn on the radar and you’ll see which PokéStops Giovanni might be sitting at. • Charge multiple times: When your Charged Attack is charged, you don’t have to use it right away, you can just keep charging it. This allows you to use your charge attack multiple times in a row.
• Find the right time: Don’t use your Charged Attacks rashly. If Giovanni’s Pokemon is almost defeated, you don’t have to fire out your Charged Attack. Defeat the monster with your Fast Attack, then fire the Charged Attack directly at Giovanni’s nearest monster.
• Same stop, same Pokemon: If you challenge Giovanni in Pokémon GO at a PokéStop, he will have the same Pokémon at that stop all day. So if you lose, you can better prepare your team for the fight afterward – after all, you know exactly what monsters await you.
• Use change break: When Giovanni sends a new Pokémon into battle, you can attack it before it spawns. It’s best to keep tapping your screen, even if you can’t do any damage right now. So you can then knock out two to three instant attacks before the opposing Pokémon can even attack.
