Tip to start with: You can also gift shards to your friends. However, we advise you against it, as you need the shards for some quests in the game. The only exception: a character has a shard as their “favorite thing of the day”. In this case you can also give one away.
What can I do with Dreamshards and Nightshards?
Some quests in Disney Dreamlight Valley require you to collect Dreamshards and Nightshards, so keep a few on hand. You can also use the two materials use for crafting. You can use it to craft the following items:
- 250 Dreamlight will cost you 10 Dream Shards.
- A Purified Nightshard costs 5 Nightshards and 1 Dreamshard.
Where to find dream shards in Disney Dreamlight Valley?
There is multiple sources for dream shards in the game:

Harvest Nightthorns | If you mine night thorns, you can get dream shards from them. Problem: Night thorns grow back very slowly. If you have cleared an area of night thorns, you must wait until the next day for new thorns to grow again. |
Dig up glowing holes | Everywhere in the game world you will find glowing holes that you can dig out with the shovel. Among other things, you can get dream shards from it. |
feeding animals | If you feed the little animals anywhere in the game world, they will sometimes drop dream shards. We tell you the favorite foods of all animals (guide) in the linked guide. Tip: You can only feed each animal species once per day. |
Where to get night shards in Disney Dreamlight Valley?
Unlike Dreamshards, you can only get Nightshards from one in-game source: the glowing holes. They keep dropping out of the holes when you dig them up.
