As part of the recent Nintendo Direct, the company released the long-awaited first trailer for the upcoming Super Mario Bros. movie. Obviously, fans weren’t disappointed, as the video received almost exclusively positive feedback.

If you think back to the first pictures of the Sonic film (2020), you remember a big shitstorm because the fans’ expectations were bitterly disappointed. Above all, the first draft of the speedy hedgehog fell through completely. But there is another wayas proven by Nintendo and Illumination with the first trailer for the upcoming Super Mario Bros. movie.
During the recent Nintendo Direct, Illimination CEO Chris Meledandri presented the first video for the film and reaped virtual applause from all sides:
“Nintendo has delivered! Looks sickly good,” writes YouTube user Corvin.
“How good easy. I was really worried that the film might not look that good visually, but it’s a 10/10”, YouTube user SHIZOja confirms the impression of many and there are many more of these positive impressions (source: YouTube).
If you’re excited to see the whole movie now, you won’t have to wait too long. Meledandri revealed during the presentation that Super Mario Bros. has been in the works for seven years and is now nearing completion. Until the movie probably in cinemas in April 2023 comes, only the last animations, the lighting and the film music will be worked on.

Super Mario Bros.: There is a bit of criticism though
While the feedback on the film is almost exclusively positive, there are also a few critics. This is mainly about Disappointment with Mario’s voice. Here, Nintendo and Illumination Star actor Chris Pratt have brought on board for the dubbing. Although he only speaks a few sentences in the trailer, fans obviously wished for more “Mario” in the voice.
“You can tell Jack Black put a lot of love and heart into his Bowser voice while Chris Pratt just uh… talked? Kinda weird but the visuals are absolutely amazing and I love the overall vibe of it all.
I’m looking forward to that damn Mario movie.”
“Chris Pratt’s voice is still awkward to hear when he speaks Mario, but everything else in the Mario trailer looked amazing. I’m really looking forward to seeing this thing.”
“I really enjoyed the performance of Bowser, the humor was great. Jack Black and Keegan Michael Key. I want to like Chris Pratt as Mario, but it just doesn’t sound good.”
