FIFA 23 for Nintendo Switch is an absolute sham

FIFA 23 for Nintendo Switch is an absolute sham

Posted on October 4, 2022 By Community

The release of FIFA 23 is imminent. Again there are some changes that should make the football experience even more realistic. However, the version for the Nintendo Switch comes off extremely badly. And this isn’t the first time.

Release: 10/01/2021

Platforms:Xbox One, Windows, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X

FIFA 23: Switch players (almost) get nothing

The new FIFA 23 will be released on September 30th for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PC and Switch. There has long been a belief among many gamers that publisher Electronic Arts isn’t changing enough about soccer simulation to justify an annual full price game. Football fans with a Nintendo Switch can only dream of it themselves.

FIFA 23 appears on the hybrid console only as Legacy Edition. In plain language this means that in terms of gameplay and game modes practically nothing changes compared to FIFA 22. After all, switch players get updated jerseys, teams, new stadiums and also the women’s clubs that are joining for the first time (source: Nintendo eShop).

The new features for the other platforms are currently not running smoothly. Online, many players are already complaining about bugs and glitches, which can also lead to funny situations.

EA has been rehashing the same FIFA for years

The lack of any notable improvements from FIFA 23 on the Nintendo Switch is actually bad enough. But there is also the fact that EA has only been delivering legacy editions for the hybrid console for years. FIFA 19 was the last game in the series to bring new features to the Switch. Since then, the basic gameplay of the soccer simulation has hardly changed.

The future of FIFA on the switch is now in the stars. After all, FIFA 23 will be the last game that is still allowed to bear this name. Then EA and FIFA go their separate ways. However EA continues the profitable series under the name EA Sports FC. FIFA itself wants to counter with its own football simulation. There could be positive changes for gamers if competition stimulates business a bit – maybe for the Nintendo Switch as well.
