House of the Dragon is the prequel series to HBO’s hit Game of Thrones. The first season is slowly coming to an end, but as GoT creator George RR Martin has now revealed, you can look forward to many more episodes.
House of the Dragon will have a total of four seasons
Game of Thrones has entertained fans with eight exciting seasons. There won’t be that many in the prequel series but a few are still to comeas Martin revealed on his personal blog (source: George RR Martin).
House of the Dragon takes place around 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones and is based on the novel Fire & Blood. It tells the story of the Targaryen Civil War, in which the children of King Viserys I Targaryen fight for control of the Iron Throne. That’s a lot of stuff to pack.
This results in a total four seasons of 10 episodes each. Although 13 episodes were originally planned, the production decided against it in the end. While more episodes would have had the benefit of explaining time jumps made as a result of the cut, in the end the risk was too great that some viewers would complain that the series was too slow and nothing would happen.

A Targaryen son is absent from House of the Dragon
The story revolves around the entire Targaryen family. So far we’ve been introduced to three of the four children, Aegon, Aemond and Helaena – the third son, Daeron, hasn’t appeared in the series yet though.
George RR Martin revealed the reason on his blog. The timing just wasn’t rightto mention him in the series. “Daeron is down in Oldtown, we just didn’t have time to fit him in this season,” the writer said.
That he will still appear is certain, because he will be in the story still play an important role.
