In Pokémon GO you can have a buddy Pokémon with you. Great bonuses await you if you want to get your buddy excited. We reveal how it works.
San Francisco – In Pokémon GO, just like the trainer Ash in the series, you can let a Pokémon from your collection run around with you at any time. This Pokémon becomes your “buddy” Pokémon, which can find items for you or give you bonuses if you interact with it. In addition, the buddy Pokémon can also have status properties. If the Pokémon reaches the so-called “Excited” status, you can also benefit from it. We explain to you how it all works best.

Pokémon GO: make buddy “excited” – what’s the point?
What is the Excited status of the Buddy Pokemon? Excited status is based on Emotion Points or XP. Pokémon require 32 XP to reach Excited status. Points are awarded for each completed activity that has a 30-minute cool-down period. An exception is running, which earns you 4 points every 2km with no cooldown. XP decreases by 1 point every 30 minutes unless interacting with your buddy, so don’t delay.

What does Excited status do for the Buddy Pokemon? When your buddy Pokémon has achieved Excited status, you’ll earn double hearts for all activities. On top of that, you and your buddy only have to walk half the distance to find candy, for example.
- stage 1
- Switch to your buddy Pokémon (2 XP)
- Play with your buddy Pokémon (2 XP)
- Feed your buddy Pokémon 3 berries or a gold berry (2 XP)
- Take a Snapshot of Your Buddy Pokemon (2 XP)
- Be the first Pokémon to enter a gym with your buddy Pokémon (2 XP)
Then set a timer for 30 minutes. After 15 minutes have passed, repeat one of the activities. You won’t get an XP point for it, but you won’t lose a point either. Once the timer is up, begin Phase 2, which we’ve outlined here to get your buddy excited.
- stage 2
- Play with your buddy Pokémon (2 XP)
- Feed your buddy Pokémon 1 berry (2 XP)
- Take a Snapshot of Your Buddy Pokemon (2 XP)
- Be the first Pokémon to enter a gym with your buddy Pokémon (2 XP)
When this second phase is complete, set a timer again. When the timer runs out, repeat phase 2 a total of two more times and you’ve now collected for 32 XP and made your buddy “excited”. If you repeat this procedure for about 14 days at a time, you will reach the status “hyper friends” with your buddy Pokémon.

Is there another faster way to get the buddy Pokemon excited? Basically it works. To do this you have to give your Pokémon a Knursp. Gnarls are snacks that fill up your buddy Pokémon’s hunger meter and instantly put them in the Excited state. You’ll also get the maximum number of daily Affection Hearts in the Give Your Buddy a Snack category.
On top of that, your Pokémon will stay fed, follow you around the map, and stay Excited for longer. The only downside: You have to dig into your pocket for Knurspe and buy the snacks for real money in the shop. So our method is the fastest way to get to your destination for free.
