Sony has seen potential for growth in the mobile market in the past. In order to be able to assert itself there in the future, the company has taken over Savage Game Studios and now also wants to bring PlayStation games to mobile phones.
PlayStation: Sony acquires studio and establishes mobile games division
Sony hasn’t focused exclusively on its own consoles for a while. With the release of formerly exclusive PS games such as Horizon: Zero Dawn, God of War, Marvel’s Spider-Man and other top titles for the PC, the company allows the community to grow steadily.
In the past, Sony also flirted with the mobile sector, but quickly discarded this idea. Now that the Enthusiasm for gaming on mobile devices is growingthe company would also like to jump back on this train.
That’s why Sony PlayStation announced the takeover of Savage Game Studios on the official blog. It is said to be a talented team with many years of experience that has been developing games for mobile devices such as cell phones for years. For this team, Sony has now founded a new PlayStation Studios Mobile Division, a department that “acts independently of our console development and focuses on innovative on-the-go experiences based on new and existing PlayStation IP will focus.”
So the plan now is to take a similar path with the first-party titles for smartphones and tablets as for PCs in order to reach new target groups.
No games, but still these apps should not be missing on your phone:
PlayStation: The team is already working on a first game
The announcement about the takeover and the new (old) commitment in the field of mobile devices only came today, but hard work is already being done in the background.
According to Sony, the PlayStation Studios Mobile Division team is already working “on a new, unannounced, premium action game with live service for mobile devices“. More has not yet been revealed (source: PlayStation).
