High On Life is a hilarious sci-fi shooter in which you are a bounty hunter on the hunt for a crime syndicate. The most striking feature are the talking weapons that are at your side throughout the adventure. In the following guide we give you useful tips and tricks.
Freeze and dust time
The fun weapons have a primary and a secondary fire mode. The secondary fire mode is a powerful one special attackwhich not only decimates enemy hordes, but can also take you to seemingly unreachable places.
Holding down the special attack button will freeze and slow down time for a short period of time. You don’t have to fire, you can just wait for the effect to expire. That’s how you save ammunition and still take advantage of the effect.
Freezing time makes it easier for you to survey the battlefield and spot cover opportunities. Just in the boss fights This “hidden” feature is extremely useful as it makes it easier for you to read attacks and find gaps in the boss’s defenses.
Don’t be afraid of hand-to-hand combat
After completing the tutorial, you will receive your first bounty contract. The first target hides in the Slums, ending in a poisonous haven. Shoot your way through the level until you get the talking knife Knifey.
A melee attack inflicted enormous damage. Smaller opponents can be eliminated with a single hit, for larger opponents you usually need two hits. Since you’re in a hail of bullets most of the time anyway, it’s often advisable to take out approaching enemies with Knifey.
The quicker you finish off the opponents, the quicker you can generate lost life points. Knifey is also not to be underestimated in boss fights. Here you should only go into close combat when the boss is stunned.
Keep an eye out for Lugloxs
After you have unlocked Knifey, you can use the cuddly small chests cut open. The so-called Lugloxs are in every level, but they are mostly well hidden.
If you destroy a Luglox, you will be rewarded with valuable coins, which you can use to acquire new upgrades in the pawn shop can buy. After defeating the second boss, you’ll unlock the ability to travel to areas you’ve already visited. Take your time in between and go on a Luglox hunt so that you don’t have money problems later.
This is how you mute your weapons
The core feature of High On Life are probably the talking weaponswho are always with you. But all that babble can get really tiring at some point and spoil the fun of the game.
This was probably also clear to the developers, so there is an option in the game to mute your weapons. Opens the main menu and switches to the Audio Settings. Here you can set how often your companion should speak up at any time. Enemy chatter can also be switched off here.
Which upgrades are worthwhile?
You can purchase new upgrades in the Pawn Shop. There are many different upgrades that you can use to improve your weapons or spacesuit. Upgrades are expensive and especially in the first few hours you are tight on cash. Therefore, the question naturally arises as to which upgrades you should buy first.
We recommend investing in pistol upgrades first. One higher magazine capacity or faster reload speed are a good choice in most shooters (including High On Life). The faster your opponents die, the easier the game will be.
After investing in weapon upgrades, it’s worth buying Durahealth potions. With them you can increase your maximum life energy. As a result, you can withstand more and be hit more often before you fall to the ground.
Knifey can reflect attacks
Knifey is not only good at kills, but can also protect you from enemy special attacks. You can parry enemy attacks and throw them back at the enemy if you strikes with Knifey at the right moment.
On reflected attack deals significantly more damage than a regular attack. Bosses can be defeated even faster this way. With a little practice, you’ll get through the game more easily.
