FIFA 23: Top 7 Tricks and Skill Moves – Fake Shot and Pass
One absolutely essential move that’s best you want to burn into your muscle memory for FIFA 23 is the fake shot. Of course it’s not a super fancy dribbling trick, but the fake is always a hugely important means of bypassing the opposing defense. The good thing about this trick is that you don’t need a player with special moves, anyone on the field can fake shots and passes.
Here’s how to perform the fake shot: As with a normal shot, you charge up a shot with the Circle button, but then press the X button just before you hit the ball. Depending on where you tilt the analog stick, you then change direction with the illusion.
|Fake shot||None||Circle, then X|
You can also fake a pass in FIFA 23 in the same way. Simply charge an edge with the square button and then cancel with X. The process is exactly the same as with the shot – except that you don’t use the circle button.

FIFA 23: Top 7 Tricks and Skill Moves – Step Over
Nothing beats the classic. The step-over is an old trick, but it’s as reliable as ever in FIFA 23. If there are head-on duels, you can unsettle your opponent with a step-over in which direction you will pass him. With the input you drag your feet alternately over the ball and cause a lot of confusion for the opponent.

This is how you perform the stepover: Performing the step-over requires at least two out of five stars in special moves, so a bit of finesse with the right analog stick is also required. While on the ball, first pull the right stick to the right and then move it in a quarter circle either up or down. After that, your player starts in the direction in which you pull the left analog stick.
|step over||★★☆☆☆||Pull the R-Stick to the right, then up or down in a quarter circle|
FIFA 23: Top 7 Tricks and Skill Moves – Ball Roll
How to do the ball roll: The ball roll is a short and simple move, but just as elegant and efficient. To perform the ball roll in FIFA 23, all you have to do is have possession of the ball and then hold the right stick up or down. As a result, your player only makes a small change of direction for a short time and then dashes on in the previous running direction. Especially in an active duel you can skilfully let a sliding tackle come to nothing. All the better if you have one of the particularly strong Lengthy players in FIFA 23 and can then go full throttle.
|ball roll||★★☆☆☆||Hold the R Stick up or down|
FIFA 23: Top 7 Tricks and Skill Moves – Drag Back
Here’s how you do the drag back: The drag back is also relatively easy, but it can get you far. Although the drag back in FIFA 23 requires two stars in special movements, you don’t have to make any entries with the right analog stick. While dribbling, simply hold down R1 and L1 while pulling the left stick backwards from your running direction. The good thing about this trick is that you can start in any direction immediately afterwards. This makes the retreat for opposing defense enormously unpredictable.
|drag back||★★☆☆☆||Hold L1+R1 while pulling the left stick to the left|
FIFA 23: Top 7 Tricks and Skill Moves – Heel Flick
How to do the heel flick: Stylish, fast and effective – the heel flick has all these qualities. If your player has three stars in special moves, you have to flick the right stick once in the running direction and then in the opposite direction. So your player makes a quick double movement with a small change of direction, with which you can easily squeeze through gaps in the defense.
|heel flick||★★★☆☆||Quickly pull the R Stick to the right and then to the left|
FIFA 23: Top 7 Tricks and Skill Moves – Roulette
How to play roulette: If you really want to dance around your opponents, roulette is the trick for you. With a courageous turn, you can weave your way out of tightly defended areas and dribble down strong chances near the penalty area. To do this, you first have to tilt the right analog stick in the opposite direction to your running and then draw a large three-quarter circle. Depending on the direction of rotation, you can drag a roulette to the left or right. The movement requires some precision, so it is only possible from three stars in special movements.
|roulette||★★★☆☆||Drag the R Stick to the left, then in a 3/4 circle (Clockwise: left; Counterclockwise: right)|
FIFA 23: Top 7 Tricks and Skill Moves – Elastico and Reverse Elastico
Here’s how you perform the elastico: Finally, a skill move that only 5-star dribbling players can use in special moves. The elastico is relatively easy to perform, all you have to do is make a semicircle with the right stick. If you get the movement right, your player will quickly fake in one direction, but then start moving quickly in the other direction. With the Elastico you can assert yourself strongly in the tightly defended penalty area and improve your angle to the goal for a strong finish.
|elastico||★★★★★||R stick down, then clockwise half circle up|
The elastico is also available in an inverted version, as a reverse elastico. The movement is exactly the opposite of the normal variant, but rewards you with an even shorter and faster animation that can make you even more dangerous. You can also put yourself in a good position for crosses with the Reverse Elastico when developing chances on the outer wings. If you have a special ST dribbling talent in FIFA 23, you should definitely learn this trick.
|reverse elastico||★★★★★||R stick up, then counterclockwise half circle down|
The trick book in FIFA 23 is much, much more extensive, but with these seven tricks you are well prepared as a beginner for the important attacking situations. Once you have mastered all of these skill moves, the door is open to you to professionally dance out your opponents with more complex dribbling.
