The PlayStation 5 is currently available in two models: disc drive and digital only. Apparently it shouldn’t stay that way. According to insiders, the console should get a third model with a removable drive. We’ll tell you more details.
PS5: Sony is already said to be producing the new console
The information comes from industry insider Tom Henderson, who has leaked numerous things in the past, which later came true: In this case, he speaks of information from sources who are familiar with Sony’s plans but wish to remain anonymous. But what is it exactly?
So far, three models of the PlayStation 5 are in circulation with the A, B and C housing. The new PS5, referred to by insiders as the D-case, is already in production and will completely replace the older consoles in the future. What’s special about her? She is about a removable drive that attaches to the back of the console using an additional USB-C port (Source: Insider Gaming).
Henderson’s sources are said to have indicated that said drive is portable, but doesn’t detract from the console’s aesthetics. Due to the detachable drive, the PS5 with the D case become even slimmer and lighter than the latest modelswhich have already undergone some changes.
You just don’t know what to gamble? We have a few suggestions:
It is also believed that the drive too can be purchased separately, so that in the event of a defect, the entire console does not have to be replaced. It is still open whether you could later miss a drive on earlier digital editions of the PS5.
The new version of the PlayStation 5 should therefore come onto the market in September 2023, i.e. in one year. Sony has not officially confirmed the information.
