Overview: When does Wrath of the Lichking Classic start?
So you know exactly when various stages of the pre-patch (aka Pre-Patch) will take place and when Wrath of the Lichking Classic will be released, here is a quick overview:
- August 31st: Pre patch appears
- 6th-13th September: Zombie plague begins
- September 13th to release: Scourge invasion
- September 27, 2022: Release of World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lichking Classic
Level up your alts before the pre-patch
Second or even third characters are not uncommon in World of Warcraft. As farm characters, for PvP, or just for a change, twinks are perfect when things aren’t going so well with the “main” (the main character). However, they are in WoW: Classic is much more difficult to level because the level phase is much more time-consuming. Of course you can experience all the old stories again, but it gets a bit boring after the second or even third time.
Blizzard now wants to remedy this and make leveling easier for you by increasing the XP gained. Of the The Rushing Voyages buff grants you 50 percent more experience until the release of Wrath of the Lichking Classic through all activities and is even active before the pre-patch.
It even makes sense to start leveling now. Why? Because Blizzard with the pre-patch the required experience points from level 60 to level 70 reduced by about 30 percent. Therefore, play through the content from Vanilla Classic in order to start directly in Outland for the release of the pre-patch. It’s worth preparing several characters for Outland at the same time – provided you have enough time.
Caution: There will be a big rush to the first quest areas of Outland when the pre-patch is released, because then the death knights are released. They start at level 55 and after their starting area are ready to go through the Dark Portal and make Outland unsafe. Our tip: First do a few quests in areas on Azeroth and after the majority of players have moved on, you switch to Outland.
Plan the level phase in Wrath of the Lichking Classic
During the pre-patch you should already plan which class you want to play in Wrath of the Lichking Classic and equip them accordingly.
For example, if you want to play a death knight, look out for good plate armor and strong weapons during the pre-patch. The same applies to all other classes and their armor types. However, you already exchange many pieces of equipment in the first Territories of Wotlk Classic – so don’t spend too much gold on better gear.
Consumables like Health potions or buff food are always helpful during leveling. If you’re an alchemist, you can craft the potions and flasks yourself, otherwise you’ll have to buy them from the auction house (or have a friendly alchi make them). Here you will find a small overview of potions that make your virtual life easier during leveling:
potion | effect |
Prime Healing Potion / Prime Mana Potion | Heals you for 1500 to 2500 health. / Restores 1,800 to 3,000 mana. |
Flask of the Relentless Assault | Increases attack power by 120 for 2 hours. |
Flask of Pure Death | Increases damage dealt by Shadow, Fire, and Frost spells by up to 80 for 2 hours. |
Flask of Blinding Light | Increases damage dealt by Arcane, Holy, and Nature spells by up to 80 for 2 hours. |
Since cooking (crafting buff food) is a secondary profession, you can level it alongside your two main professions and always equip yourself with the right food. prepare the dishes for it, that increase your main attribute.
Try out the new talents and abilities
For the pre-patch, Blizzard not only released the death knight and the “Scourge Invasion” event, but also the revision of the talent trees of all classes. That means it new and changing talents will be given that greatly affect the damage of individual classes. For example, Fury Warriors gain access to Titan’s Grasp. The talent allows them to wield two two-handed weapons at the same time. So test different skills and see which one suits you best.
Farm yourself a golden nose
The most important tip: Grab as much gold as possible before you start. You will need World of Warcraft currency in large quantities in Wrath of the Lichking Classic. Alone the dual talent specialization and Cold Weather Flight each cost 1,000 gold. If you want the Traveler’s Tundra Mammoth (a mount with an integrated vendor and repair ability), you’ll need to scrape together 16,000 gold.
Depending on the class, you have different effective ways to get gold. If you’re playing a class that deals a lot of AoE damage, you can join Farm runs in old dungeons (e.g. Stratholme) earn a lot of gold.
the daily quests on the Isle of Quel’danas are another source to quickly generate a lot of gold. This doesn’t just apply to these quests though – in general you can complete all sorts of daily quests – up to the limit of 25 quests per day per character. If you own several level 70 characters, you can complete the dailys with all of them. A nice side effect: You also collect reputation with the quests and you can get better equipment from the faction dealer if necessary.
Furthermore you can Farming reputation items for the two factions “Aldor” and “Seer”.. These grant you access to various epic items as well as the shoulder enchantments, which are very useful for the first levels in Northrend. In addition, you can also earn a lot of gold with the gathering and crafting professions in World of Warcraft Classic.
Level up your professions and the new Inscription profession
So that you can level up your professions during the leveling phase in Wotlk Classic, use the time during the pre-patch to develop your to maximize occupations. You should make a plan as to which professions are best for your class and which you want to cover with your twinks.
We recommend with your main character two manufacturing jobs to choose. Manufacturing professions grant you various bonuses in Wrath of the Lichking – as a blacksmith, for example, you get additional sockets for gems, which in turn increase your attributes. In addition, the new profession “Inscription” comes into play, with which you can create glyphs and more.
Make yourselves best a druid as a farm character. Due to his travel and flight form, he can break down herbs extremely quickly. This will provide your main character with resources.
You can earn a fortune during the pre-patch with gathering professions like Herbalism or Mining. As many players max out more characters while also leveling up their crafting professions, the need for resources will increase significantly before the release of Wrath of the Lichking. That makes Ores and herbs enormously valuable. If you farm these and then sell them in the auction house, you will earn tons of gold.
At the same time, you should make sure that you level up your professions does not buy overpriced resources – Observe the market and jump when you spot a low price. However, this requires patience.
The same goes for the crafting materials you get from enemies in Outland. the “Primal” items (primal fire, primordial earth, etc.) bring you a lot of gold in the auction house a. For example, primordial fire is very popular and usually brings you more than ten gold per item (depending on the server). The best primeval fire farming spots: in Nagrand at the Throne of the Elements and in Hellfire Peninsula at Kil’jaeden’s Throne.
Grab the Amani War Bear
Wrath of the Lichking Classic also sees a few changes to The Burning Crusade content going live, most notably that the Armani War Bear of Zul’Aman disappears. Grab the chic bear before the release.

Fancy a change? Level using PvP!
If leveling through quests and dungeons is too boring for you, you can too from the preparatory patch for Wotlk Classic leveling via PvP, more precisely via battlefields, since these now also grant experience points. This provides some variety and if you have a well-established group, you can level up extremely quickly.
Joining the appropriate Battlegrounds during the Call to Arms event will speed things up even further – queues are very short here. Incidentally, you level most efficiently if you participate in “Call to Arms: Alterac Valley”.. There, in addition to victory or defeat, you will receive additional experience points for each optional objective you complete (destroy towers or kill faction bosses).
In addition to the XP you also farm honor in PvP. You save these points over the levels and can then spend them on a fancy mount. Or you can keep saving them during the leveling phase of Wotlk Classic and buy a powerful PvP gear item for your class at level 80. Note, however, that you can accumulate a maximum of 57,000 honor.
